Berrien County does NOT have a permanent hazardous waste drop-off site and will only accept materials during the dates and times listed below.

May 21, Saturday, 8am-12 Noon S.E. BERRIEN COUNTY LANDFILL, Bertrand Twp.

June 15, Wednesday, 3-7pm LAKESHORE HIGH SCHOOL, Stevensville

June 25, Saturday, 9am-1pm RIVER VALLEY SENIOR CENTER, 13321 Red Arrow Highway, Harbert, 1 mile North of Chikaming Township Hall

July 16, Saturday, 9am - 1pm  WATERVLIET HIGH SCHOOL

August 24, Wednesday, 3-7pm APPLE VALLEY MARKET, Berrien Springs

September 17, Saturday, 9am-1pm  COUNTY ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPT, 2106 M-139, corner of M-139 and Starlite Dr., Benton Twp.

September 24, Saturday, 9am-1pm NEW BUFFALO CITY FIRE DEPT on North Harrison Street.

October 15, Saturday, 8am-12 Noon  S.E. BERRIEN COUNTY LANDFILL, 3200 Chamberlain Rd., same entrance as Recycling Station, Buchanan (Bertrand Twp.)

USER FEES

Automobile Batteries: 1st 2 free, 3 & above = $2 each 

Liquids: 1st 10 gallons per type are free, 11 gallons & above per type = $1/gallon 

Donations will be accepted & appreciated to help defray the cost of the service.

Accepted Items: home medical waste such as unused/outdated pills, liquid medication, patches, & medical sharps/needles. 

Home medical waste is accepted at all 9 Household Hazardous Waste Events and 4 additional events in 2011:

Computers, CPUs, keyboards, mice, cords, laptops, speakers, scanners, table top printers, cell phones, VCRs, DVD players, video game players, stereos, typewriters, microwaves, VHS tapes, CDs, televisions, and console televisions.

2011 COLLECTION DATE & LOCATION

April 13, Wednesday, 3-7pm: LAKE MICHIGAN COLLEGE PARKING LOT, 2755 East Napier Ave., Benton Harbor (part of the "LMC Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Day").

SPRING 2011 COLLECTION: May 5, Thursday, 3-7pm and May 6, Friday, 8am-11am

FALL 2011 COLLECTION: September 8, Thursday, 3-7pm and September 9, Friday, 8am-11am

 2 Drop-off Locations for both Spring & Fall Collection:

Benton Township Road Commission, corner of Napier Ave. & Yore Ave. Enter at the southern most gate on Yore Ave (3rd gate). From Highway 31, take Exit #24, turn West. From I-94, take Exit #30, turn East.

Bakertown Rd. Road Commission facility, 1940 Bakertown Road., Buchanan, 1/4 mile South of Route 12, on the West side of the road.

 

User Fees  

 

$1/passenger tire

$2/passenger tire on rim

$5/semi truck tire

$10/oversize and loader tires

Payment by cash or check (written to "Berrien County") due at collection.

 REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE DAY @ LAKE MI COLLEGE

April 13, Wednesday, 3-7 p.m.

Lake MI College Parking Lot, 2755 Napier Ave., Benton Harbor

For Berrien County RESIDENTS ONLY

Drive thru service - volunteers will be on hand to  unload items from vehicles.

Partnership between Lake Michigan College & Berrien County.

Donations accepted & appreciated to offset collection costs.

  • Electronics (computers, televisions, and anything with a cord)    
  • Household Hazardous Waste & Medical Waste (see HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE for more a list of accepted items and fees)
